Replacement Value Calculators

Find out cost of replacing your home building and/or contents when applying for a insurance cover using replacement value calculators.

Replacement Value Calculators

When applying for Home and Contents Insurance, many homeowners underestimate what it might cost to replace their house and/or contents. But the more accurately you can assess their value, the simpler it will be to make an informed decision and select the level of cover that best suits your personal circumstances. We’ve made this part of the process easier for you with three handy Replacement Value Calculators (kindly provided by Cordell Information and Sum Insured1), which can help you get a better idea of your replacement costs.

Express Building Calculator

Our Express Building Calculator is perfect if you’re after a quick replacement cost estimate for your home. This estimate is derived from Cordell Information’s database of building costs, which is based on industry averages calculated over a number of years. Getting this report is as simple as answering a few short questions about your home. These basic questions include information like the number, type and size of rooms within the dwelling, whether you have solar power, a swimming pool or air conditioning, the size and extent of your garage and driveway, the construction of your walls, floor and roof and a few other details. Once you’ve entered your home’s details, the online Cordell Residential Valuer will provide an estimate (based on the information you’ve given) of the amount required to rebuild your home2. This report can then be downloaded and saved as a PDF file for future reference.

Full Building Calculator

If you’re after a more complete estimate of the cost to replace your home, use our Full Building Calculator. After you have answered a comprehensive series of questions about your building, the online Cordell Residential Valuer will provide a report on the replacement cost of your home. This estimate is derived from Cordell Information’s database of building costs, which is based on industry averages calculated over a number of years.

The Full Building Calculator includes much the same questions as the Express Building Calculator, plus some additional questions relating to the features of your home – such as whether you have automatic garage door openers, a skylight, solar hot water, a separate shed, rainwater tank, security system, etc. With both these Building Calculators, it also helps to know the total area of your home (but this information is not essential to get your estimate). Based on the details you’ve provided, the online Cordell Residential Valuer will give you an estimate on the amount required to rebuild your home – in just minutes!

Contents Calculator

You can use our convenient Sum Insured Contents Calculator to get an estimate of what it might cost to replace your household items if they were damaged or stolen. It’s not uncommon for people to underestimate the value of their Contents, but if you had to replace your appliances, whitegoods, furniture, clothing and other personal belongings, you might be surprised at the cost. Hint: the average value of household contents in Australia as of 2010 was estimated at over $60,0003.

If you want an even more complete estimate of the replacement cost of your Contents, there’s a link on the calculator’s final page called Edit My Contents that lets you add even more details about the contents you have in your home.
